HOW DID THE PLAYGROUND BECOME A REALITY?

The playground project was initiated in late 2005 by the non-profit group Be A Trailblazer Inc., in conjunction with the City of Lake Mary.  The purpose of this effort was to provide area children with a state-of-the-art  playground and a splash park with a variety of water features. Examples of the type of equipment are found in the column to the left (click to enlarge the images).

NOW THAT IT'S OPEN, IS THE PARK COMPLETE ?

The major components of the playground and splash park have been installed and the park is complete enough to be used. The items remaining to be purchased and installed include additional benches, picnic tables and some smaller play equipment for very young children. These items will be added to the park as soon as the funds are raised to permit their purchase.

HOW MUCH MORE HAS TO BE RAISED?

The cost of the park in its present state was $750,000. We need to raise another $50,000 to pay for the remaining costs of the existing equipment and purchase the additional equipment noted in the preceding paragraph.

WHAT HOURS IS THE PLAYGROUND OPEN?

The playground is open seven (7) days a week, during daylight hours. Depending on weather conditions, the splash pad may not be in operation every day.

The playground is now part of the the City of Lake Mary Sports Complex, and will be maintained by the city. The playground is located at Rantoul Lane and Shealey Road (just north of where N. Country club jogs to the right).

The Lake Mary Sports complex already houses tennis courts,  ball fields, batting cages, a skateboard park, a Soccer Field and basketball courts.

HOW WAS THIS PROJECT FUNDED?

The funding of the playground was a cooperative effort between area citizens, civic groups, local businesses and the City of Lake Mary. Be A Trailblazer Inc., coordinated the fundraising effort, utilizing the fundraising initiatives similar to those employed in their earlier project to enhance the Lake Mary Rinehart Road Recreational Trail. The trail campaign raised over $300,000, and resulted in the addition of multiple rest areas, exercise stations, water fountains and enhanced landscaping along the 2.3 mile trail.

WHAT IF I WANT TO CONTRIBUTE TO HELP RAISE THE FUNDS TO PURCHASE THE REMAINING EQUIPMENT, OR I KNOW OF A COMPANY OR INDIVIDUAL WHO DOES?

Your assistance would be welcome and gratefully appreciated. Many of our donations have come as a result of individuals  mentioning the project to a friend or employer.

For the convenience of those who would like to help raise the funds necessary to complete the project, a printable information kit is available for downloading (PDF file). Click on the information bar in the column to the left.
